GERMAK Banyuwangi EAST JAVA – Just three kilometers from downtown Banyuwangi, a hidden gem is quietly making waves: Wonosari Beach. Located in Sobo Village, this newly developed coastal destination is not only a scenic retreat, but also a symbol of empowerment and resilience for the local community—especially the wives of fishermen.
With a highly affordable entrance fee—just Rp2,000 on regular days and Rp5,000 during special events—visitors are treated to white sands, calming waves, and a gentle tropical breeze. But beyond the beauty, the real charm lies in the spirit of community.
“We want to provide space for fishermen’s wives to be economically independent,” said Alvian Hidayat, head of the local tourism group Pokdarwis Pawon Jaya, on Thursday (April 10, 2025).
Driven by cooperation and solidarity, local women have opened seafood stalls, basic tourist services, and packaging for fresh catches. Even community-based business groups (KUB) from the marine sector have joined the effort.
Government support is gradually taking shape. Access roads to the beach have been repaired, making it easier for tourists to visit. Still, Alvian has bigger dreams.
“We hope to add children’s play areas, fishing spots, and local creative products to enhance visitor experience and boost the local economy,” he added.
Wonosari Beach is more than a tourist spot. It’s a growing symbol of hope, proving that great change can bloom from small steps and united hearts.
