GERMAK Banyuwangi JATIM – The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), in collaboration with officers from the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), Police (POLRI), and the Ketapang Service Unit of the Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (Quarantine) in East Java, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 66 slaughtered pigs without official documentation at the ASDP Ketapang Ferry Port, Banyuwangi, on Sunday (13/04/25).

Using a Colt Diesel Truck with license plate number AD 9890 A, the pigs, originating from Jembrana Regency, Bali, were intended to be transported to Jakarta through the Gilimanuk – Ketapang Ferry Port.
Fitri Hidayati, the person in charge of the Ketapang Quarantine Service Unit, explained to reporters, “The total number is 66 slaughtered pigs, which were planned to be sent to Jakarta,” she stated.
“Initial information regarding the transportation of pigs without documentation was obtained by officers from public reports. Based on this information, the joint team from TNI AL Lanal Banyuwangi, KPPP Polresta Banyuwangi, and Ketapang Quarantine increased surveillance at the port,” she added.
“When the ship docked at Ketapang Pier, the mentioned truck was immediately secured by the officers. Upon inspection, the truck driver was unable to present quarantine documents from the area of origin,” she continued.
“Due to this violation, the driver, assistant, truck, and its cargo were directed to the Ketapang Quarantine Center for further examination,” Fitri clarified.
After the examination process, the shipment was rejected, and the vehicle along with its cargo was not permitted to continue its journey. The livestock owner was also requested to appear at the Quarantine Office for questioning.
“According to Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine, all animals transported must be accompanied by quarantine documents from the area of origin. As the requirements were not met, the shipment was rejected,” Fitri concluded.
This rejection is part of the risk mitigation effort to prevent the spread of diseases, particularly Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), and to ensure all carriers are free from Indonesian Quarantine Animal Disease Pests (HPHKI).
